There are a lot of factors that go into picking the right e-bike so let us help you out with some of the terms used so you can gain a better understanding and make an informed decision.
Given we are talking about e-bikes let's start by getting an understanding how you can best examine a battery as this is a crucial item to have some clarity on.
Common Terms Used:
Battery Voltage:
-often referred to as 36V, 48V, 52V, 60V, 70V etc.
-size matters!
Amp Hours (Ah):
-typically ranges between is 4 Ah to 20 Ah
-less the Ah = less in range
-higher the Ah = longer the range
In knowing the above we need to understand is that voltage propels the flow of electric energy while Amps indicate force.
Now what's important understand next is what Watt hours are.
Watt hours (Wh) indicates how long a full charge will last, in other words, the range you will get out of a full charge.
Many manufacturers (i.e. SONY, SANYO, SAMSUNG, Panasonic, LG) will give you the Ah and the battery voltage. So if you want to know how long a charge will last and what range you will get, you can calculate this information by taking the battery voltage and multiplying it by Ah giving you the Watt Hours.
Remember:
Voltage up, faster bikes!
Amps mean thick wires or big batteries.
Volts + Amps = Watts.
E-bikes: battery first, features second!
